About Me

My photo
Midway, NC, United States
I retired from Bali Bras, Sara Lee Intimates. Married in Oct 1976. I love meeting new people so hope to hear from you. Drop me a line. I've been doing crafts of all kinds since I was a kid. I loved making things and especially things that are recycled. I had never stamped until 2001 when I went to a stamp class while on vacation. We went to a local store to buy the stamps we had used. OUCH. When we got home I saw a Stampin Up catalog and realized how much money I could save with their stamps and best part as they are sets that go together which makes for easy card making. After doing some thinking I decided I should sign up as a demo and see what happens. I didn't know the first thing about stamping and still learning. Retired from Sara Lee Intimates in Feb 2001. I was in sales after many years, since age 18, as an office person, secretary, office assistant, etc. I am out of Stamping Up since Spring 2017 but still have lots of supplies!!!! These days I'm back to quilting and having a great time.

We have 1 winner. Congrats Marilyn

The "basic set" is "Itty Bitty Backgrounds".
The winning guess under "comments" came in from Marilyn McAfee. Marilyn, watch for a card in the mail.

Thanks for taking time to make a guess.

Another chance for a FREE card in the mail

Would you like a FREE card in the mail?

Another one of my very favorite sets is going.

Oh my gosh it was one of my very first stamps I purchased. How can they do that.
It's just such a good basic stamp set. Well I'm hanging on to mine.
It's a small set
It's corrected a lot of my mistakes

Would you like a FREE card in the mail? Guess which set I'm sad to see leave.

Well I've just taken a few minutes to update my current and outgoing catalog and mark all the retired stamps. Still haven't marked the retiring accessories but more concerned with stamps.

Hope you have marked yours as you have til June 30th to get retiring stamp sets and then they will be gone. I'm placing an order later this week if you need something or go to www.joanlowder.stampinup.net
to place an order.

So as you mark your book have you noticed stamp sets that you never noticed before? Are you losing a lot of sets that you are crying over?

I've marked 3 sets that are retiring that I'm very unhappy to see them go.
Be sure to check out clues for the others.

  • The first one makes me so sad to see it leave.

  • It's uplifting to the receiver.

  • It offers a heartfelt greeting

  • 4 pc set

  • one inking gets the look of shades of color

I'll send a card to the first 5 people leaving the correct set name. Be sure to leave your email address or check back to see if you are a winner. Good luck. Deadline extended to Friday, 6/25/10.

Come back later as I'll be asking you to guess a different one.

By the way, I've thrilled that "Lovely as a Tree" is not retiring. I love this stamp set as it has so many uses. It was one of the first sets I ever bought when I became a demo in 8/2001.

Have any questions, just drop me an email, jlowder1@bellsouth.net

You have til 6/30 to order anything you'll want in your stash. http://www.joanlowder.stampinup.net/

Scrap night at Joan's

Thought I might plan a "Scrap Night". Had to change the date. So let me know if you can make it, as it stands now it will be Thursday, June 24, 6:00 - 9 pm.
Bring your cards or card fronts. You can use my card scraps and make some cards. This is open to anyone who has placed an order with me in the last 3 months. Seating is limited.

No class or instruction but I do have some samples for ideas. Will post one later today to show you. Thought I had taken a picture but guess not.

When I cut cards that are layered I often have 1/4" strips and can't bare to toss them. It's an age thing. Come help me use them up.

If you want to make card fronts, I'd cut the cardstock to either card front size, 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 or if you want it to be layered it will be 4 x 5 1/4".

If I can find someone to take some July 4th cards to some troops, I'll ask that you help make some of these before we start or mid way thru.

June '10 Stampin Up Class projects

June, 2010 class projects. Well I enjoyed making all of these with a little help and inspiration from others. The 3-d flower card was just so much fun but won't fit in an envelope.
I found this card idea on pg. 72, Papercrafts May 2006, cased card by Amber Crosley. I changed it up by texturing the colored piece. The butterflies are a die by Stampin Up as well as the plates and verses. The verses are from Whimiscal Words, SAB '10. The butterflies die is from Mini catalog that retired 5/31/10. It has 5 butterflies. I pop dotted the big one on inside of the card.

Well this card idea by Joanne Gelnar. When you see a great idea, just change it up based on what you have on hand. Well of course I used my favorite and very first SU set: Lovely as a Tree. Yep, it didn't retire this year either. I just love it.
The leaves in the background are stamped in Sahara Sand, Certainly Celery, Old Olive, Always Artichoke, Choc. Chip.
Cardstock: Old Olive, Very Vanilla, Natural Vanilla color.
Yarn, unknown

Once again, inspired by Joanne Gelnar. Give credit where credit is due. What a fun project.
Using your round scallop punch, punch out 5. Punch a hole thru the middle. Now one at a time, wet each scallop circle, both sides and take out your frustrations on it by wadding it up. Actually one girl in class called it an old fashioned "Spit" ball. Now I surely don't remember making one of those as a young girl.
Open up each flower petal. Insert brad thru and thread each layer on. Bend brad back flat. Now re squish the flower and then open up to suit you. Let dry or with a little help from the heat gun we moved on. The white is textured with SU texture plates of your choice.
Cardstock: Rich Razzleberry, W.White, Cottage designer paper.
Sets: Leave from Petal Pizzaz, words of your choice.
Sizes for paper: Designer paper: 1 5/8 x 4 1/8
Rich Razzleberry to back it: 2 3/8 x 4 1/4
Accessories: Brad, water, scallop border punch, texture plates

Who doesn't like a Red, White and Blue card

July 4 is not far away. Celebrate with some easy cards. This has been the favorite. This was made by dragging a Real Red pad across using the edge of the pad, along with Brilliant Blue for a Patriotic Card.

Want to join me to make some of these cards to send to the troops. I think I have someone that can take them.

Planning a scrap night 6/24. check back for more details.

New punch designs are coming with the new catalog

Starting with the new 2010 Occasions Mini Catalog and continuing with all new punch designs going forward, Stampin' Up! has adopted a new body style for our punches!

I must say that I really like the design as it locks down so it's not so junky. Great storage solution. You'll want to check them out. Remember some are already in the new mini catty so consider trying one. Call me if you want to try one, Joan Lowder, 336-764-3546.

A few features of the new punch style:

•Low-profile, rectangular punch body allows for easier stacking and storing
•Punches lock shut for easier storage and transport
•Dual labels on top and end allow for easy identification and selection when stored
•Available in three sizes: small, medium, and extra-large

•New punches allow for larger punched images and more intricate designs while providing greater ease of use.

◦Extra -large punch images also allow for two-step designs like the Two-Step Bird punch in the Occasions Mini Catalog

•Corner punches allow you to punch a corner design along the inside edges of a page, not just corners

•larger, whole-hand handle design provides better leverage for easier use

•Available in an exclusive Stampin' Up! color
Part of Stampin' Up!'s commitment to providing demonstrators and customers with the very best crafting tools includes the belief in what we call continuous improvement. Essentially what this means is that even if something works very well, but we see a chance to improve it, we will work to make it even better. While new punch designs will be in the new body style, existing designs will remain in the existing body style for now. We will communicate any further changes as those decisions are made.
